¿Qué ventajas tiene trabajar con herramientas de traducción?

La documentación en formato electrónico editable (es decir, no lo documentos escaneados o los archivos PDF protegidos en los que no se puede copiar el texto) se puede traducir con ayuda de herramientas de traducción. Las memorias de traducción (TM por sus siglas en inglés, como Trados Translator's Workbench) guardan el texto de origen y de destino durante el proceso de traducción. Con ellas se crean unidades de traducción que se pueden recuperar más tarde. Todas las frases nuevas que haya que traducir se comparan con las unidades de traducción guardadas. Si se encuentran frases similares o iguales en el texto de origen, se propone automáticamente una traducción para esa frase, y el traductor puede aceptarla o, dado el caso, modificarla.

Gracias al trabajo con memorias de traducción, es posible ahorrarse tiempo con los textos de origen formulados de manera similar y entregar traducciones homogéneas. De este modo, podemos ofrecerle descuentos especiales por los pasajes que se repitan o sean muy parecidos. Sin embargo, para poder calcular si se puede aplicar un descuento necesitamos los archivos de origen. Otra de las ventajas es que se mantiene el formato del texto original. Al utilizar programas de gestión terminológica como MultiTerm 95+ o Termbase, se garantiza que un término se traduzca siempre igual en todos los documentos.

También cabe la posibilidad de crear una TM con herramientas de alineación de textos a partir de proyectos de traducción anteriores. No obstante, para ello es necesario contar con el original y su traducción en formato electrónico.
