The scheduled departure of the United Kingdom from the EU – the so-called Brexit – has caused a great deal of uncertainty. Whether in the political sphere, the industrial sector, or the world of finance or employment – there’s a broad area of insecurity as to how Brexit will affect our day-to-day lives.
While the negotiations regarding the conditions by which the UK will leave the EU are still in full swing, many British citizens living and working in the EU are faced with the question as to whether they will require a residence or work permit after the departure of the UK allowing them to remain at their chosen home. For this reason, many British nationals have already applied for German citizenship as a measure to avoid any burocratic hassles that may occur in the aftermath of Brexit. The same goes for many citizens of other EU countries currently living and working in the UK, who are now faced with far-reaching challenges regarding their jobs. There are, of course, plenty of other reasons why people consider taking out a different citizenship.
