Changes in your personal circumstances may well result in you considering to relinquish your original citizenship to take up another. The reasons can be manifold: you’ve married a person from a different country, you’d like to take up permanent residence in a different country from where you were born, or you’re afraid of losing your job or work permit due to changes in the political sphere (prime example: Brexit).

Whatever your reason for changing citizenship – it’s easiest and best to find out which documents have to obtained and submitted to the authorities by contacting them directly. Generally you’ll be asked to apply for annulment of your previous citizenship and at the same time to present an assurance of citizenship by another country, since no one’s allowed to be stateless.
In most cases, the application documents and the declarations of assurance and annulment issued by the authorities must be presented in the languages of the two countries involved. The documents of assurance of and release from citizenship must be submitted as certified translations.
We’d be glad to make certified translations of these documents for you – simply contact us!
